Crash CD

Izaac Pellerin

In the beginning of the crash CD I was pretty sure I knew what would happen as the people left the party. The car full of teenagers crashed into a tree. In the CD when your character wakes up you are in a hospital, the councilor comes and tells you that you have had a head injury and you need to answer some questions to help them find out who you are because you can't remember. This is how I answered some of the questions.

I am a 16 year old male. If I saw someone drinking and I thought they might drive I would be likely to try to stop them from driving.

I have never driven after smoking marijuana and I have never ridden in a car with someone who has been drinking or smoking marijuana. Another way I keep safe is by wearing my seat belt often.

If a person uses drugs, they have a 50/50 chance for someone to get hurt. There is also a 50/50 chance you would total your car if you used drugs and drove. Also, it is slightly likely that you would be arrested if you drove after using drugs.

After you answer the questions the councilor tells you you have to stay in the hospital. She says that they know there were other people in the car and that a biker that was hit.

Mike (a high school volunteer) tells you that there is a lot of responsibility that comes with getting your license but then he has to leave. He gives you three papers to look at. The first one is interviews with a drunk driver, the second is of an interview with a victim, and the third is about some parents that have lost their kid in a crash.

Then you visit the Sensation Seeker Poster. It is about Adrenalin junkies. The poster page then asks if you like those kinds of activities. I said sometimes. They go on to say that these kind of activities can be dangerous. You have to pick your when and where of involved risks.

The last poster is the Safe Alternatives Poster. It talks about what you should do if one of your friends tries to drive drunk. The first thing to do is to get the keys. Then the next thing to do is try to find another driver. Next, you could try to delay the driver. If that doesn’t work try another angle like asking if they are tired. You could let them go but you shouldn’t let them do this.

Next I went to the lawyers office. She said there was a lot of drunk driving cases. I read the facts and picked the involuntary manslaughter scenario. Then they explained the verdict (60 years in jail).

The Cost Calculator determines how much you might pay for a traffic violation. It ended up to be around 4,000 dollars.

After the lawyer I went to the doctors office. He said he had to leave but to look around his office. When I looked around I saw a poster called the Effects of Alcohol on the Brain. The effects were that is slowed messages to the brain and slurred the voice. Also drinking alcohol blurred vision and impaired judgment.

Another poster was called Three Impacts in a Crash. These were that the car hits an object, that the body hit’s the car and finally that organs hit the inside of the body.

This leads to brain injuries that cause you to have a hard time concentrating. You forget things, lose sense of taste, have difficulty with motor skills, and have mood swings.

Another poster listed the Effects of Marijuana. The effects include misjudging speed, misjudging braking, it affects perceptions and impairs judgment. 80% of teens that die, die in car crashes. More than any other age group.

Once you get to the police station the cop starts talking but then he has to leave. He gives you some activities. One activity is learning how to spot drunk drivers. 35% of drunk drivers have their headlights off when they should be on. 45% have slow responses when driving. 55% of drunk drivers follow the car in front of them too close. 65% weave when driving. 35% of drunk drivers turn too abruptly and 45% drift out of their lane. 55% swerve and 65% make their turns too wide. If you are in a car with someone who has been drinking and does any of these things convince them to stop.

If you get arrested you first get pulled over. You must provide the information the police officer asks you for. If you are arrested, the police officer will read you your Miranda rights. You will be taken to the police station for pictures and fingerprints and your blood alcohol content will be tested. You will have fines to pay. Upon release, you are given a court date and you may have a trial.

In the end I was the bicyclist. I was hit by the car full of teens who where on their way back from a party. One of the teens died. My view on drinking and driving is that there are too many crashes that involve drunk drivers which is so senseless. If you know that you like to drink and you drive a car just bring a sleeping bag and spend the night or have someone drive you home. People should avoid the road at those times when there are a lot of drunk drivers. There were a lot of good lessons in the CD.

car crash

BOSTON -- Two people were killed and two others suffered serious injuries after a o five-car crashn I-95 northbound in Attleboro early Saturday morning. The multi-car crash occurred when a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Isaac D. Souza, 21, from Leominster, Mass., entered the breakdown lane, striking an unoccupied 1997 Honda Accord. The Civic then spun back into the highway and set in motion a crash involving three other vehicles. Souza was declared dead at the scene. The driver of a 2004 Dodge Dakota, Michael G. Doble, 36, from North Attleboro, was killed when his truck rolled over. Claudia DeLeone, 22, and Jose Goubeia, 21, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. A 16-year-old suffered minor injuries in the crash. State police said they believe two other vehicles might have been involved in the crash, but left the scene. The highway was closed for four hours after the accident.

this article is about how a car crash can make a domino efect this crash could have been avoided if the car in breakdown lane had been removed and if the driver in the civic was not driving in the wrong place.

news article; traffic safety

The highway infrastructure as we know it today began expanding rapidly after President Dwight Eisenhower, 50 years ago this month, signed the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 which committed the government to invest heavily in a national network of interstates. The law offered to pay 90% of the costs for the new highways, with relevant state governments picking up the rest of the tab. Most of the new roads were at least four lanes wide, with no level crossings; these standards became mandatory in the 1960s. States were allowed to bring their existing toll roads in the systems provided they met these standards.

this article talks about the HTS (Highway Transportation System) it was put in place because of the growing need to move more people faster the high way is very importent but it can also be dangerous.so everyone who uses it should exersize the proper amount of caution when using it.

road way signs

three types of roadway signs are stop signs, yield signs, and speed limit signs you can tell if it is a stop sign by the shape and color it has 8 sides and is red. a yield signe is a upside down triangle that is red on the outside and white on the inside. a speed sign is balck and white with the speed posted on the inside in black.

Nation’s Top Safety Official Reminds Motorists to Take Caution During Deadliest Days on America’s Roads

The nation’s top safety official today urged drivers to help save lives by buckling up, driving sober and obeying speed limits during the July 4th holiday which is traditionally the deadliest day on America’s roads.

“We want people to enjoy the fireworks and cook outs but more importantly we want people to be alive to enjoy the next celebration,” said Nicole R. Nason, Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The statistics show over 25 years just how hazardous travel is during the Independence Day holiday period, Nason said. She pointed to alcohol as a major factor in fatal crashes during the July 4 holiday, stressing that a designated, sober driver be identified before the celebration begins. Statistics show that 51 percent of all deadly traffic crashes are related to the use of alcohol during the July 4 holiday, compared to the annual average of about 40 percent.

In addition, Nason said nearly half of those killed in crashes were not using seat belts. Using seat belts – and placing children in proper car seats in the back seat – are the best ways for drivers to protect themselves and their families, she said.

“With so many more people on the road for their holiday celebrations, it becomes critical for drivers to buckle up, drive sober and obey the speed limit,” Nason said.

this is anoter article that tell about the dangers of driveng and the inportence of wereing a seatbelt it also tells more about the acidents drunk drivers are involved in fifyt one percent of craches on and around july fourth are caused by drunk drivers
